APPEARANCE Overall Laindir stands at just six feet tall with an athletic build. His skin is slightly tanned from being outdoors for a majority of his time, though there is only so much the Gondorian sun can do. Dark brown hair sits atop his head, cut short to let it stay out of his vision. As a knight he felt that letting his hair grow out presented more of an opening than it should, as it can be grabbed or block his sight. While normally he does not grow much facial hair, after spending weeks abroad hunting down those who serve the Red Eye, he does gain the facial covering, though it does not last long when he returns to civilization. Normally he can be found wandering Dol Amroth in simple black linen pants and tunic. His sword will always be found hanging at his side from a brown leather belt. On top of the tunic he will wear a blue and silver Swan Knight jerkin. When he ventures from Dol Amroth he dons chain mail on top of his regular linen tunic. A leather surcoat sit atop the chain mail extending to near ground level. The surcoat is dark blue in color with silver trim. In the middle of the coat is the silver swan of Dol Amroth. His family sword sits on his left hip and a parrying dagger is kept on his right side. He wears a chain mail coif with this outfit for keeping his head protected. Though he normally keeps himself in light armor, there are times when a knight must go in full armor. Everything that he wears with his light armor is kept for his full armor. A steel cuirass is added on top to protect his upper body. Steel pauldrons dress his shoulders, and then steel vambraces cover his arms. His legs are protected by a steel skirt and greaves. All of the armor is decorated with markings of the Swan Knights. While many of the other Gondor soldiers had a white tree marking them, he had the silver swan. The helmet he wears looks much like the old Numenorean one only the wings are turned back and away. Laindir does not carry all his weapons at once, but he does carry many when he has a horse and with his squire. His sword was made in the Second Age and has been passed through his family since. The blade survived through the ages and has stood as a mark of Laindir's family. He acquired it after his father died in battle. He carries a parrying dagger mainly used to deal finishing blows to opponents, but may also be used actively in combat. He carries a shield that he also uses. The shield is the same size and shape as the regular ones of Gondor, only it is painted a deep blue and holds the silver swan of Dol Amroth. As a final weapon, he carries a spear while on horseback, mainly utilizing it for attacking opponents with more reach, or for dismounting any opponents who are riding. HISTORY The tale of Laindir, Son of Edlennion, a Knight of Dol Amroth is not the longest, nor is it the most memorable. However, it does sit among the halls of Dol Amroth's archives, noting the exploits during the War of the Ring. Laindir's tale begins in the harsh winter of 2972 in the Third Age. Amidst the unusual blizzard that blanketed Gondor in snow, in the home of Edlennor, a member of the Prince's Swan Knights, his wife was giving birth. It had been unlucky to begin with that his wife was to give birth in winter, but even worse was the size of her belly. It had worried Edlennor since he saw that she was struggling much more than other pregnant women with giving birth. As he waited in the main room of his home all he could do was worry for his wife's safety in delivering his child. As this battle hardened knight was driven to the edge of his senses, continually pacing around the room enough so that he was surprised he had not worn a hole in the ground, he finally heard the cries of a baby. It took everything he could muster to not rush into the room and meet his child and wife. As he stood next to the door he heard a flurry of voices and actions as the hand- maidens were rushing around. Edlennor waited outside wanting to know if anything happened, and that was when he heard a second cry from a newborn. The Knight went through the door at this point and saw a sight he did not expect. It was one of both joy and of sorrow. The lead woman who helped his wife give birth told him that she did all she could, but could not save his wife. However, he now had two heirs, twins, a boy and a girl. He named the male Laindir, and the female Esteleth. And so Laindir came into this world just as his mother left it. As Edlennor served as a knight he would be sent out on missions to protect the province of Belfelas. This meant he did not have the time to raise his children, so he left them under the instruction of a nanny that had helped them both into the world. Over the course of Laindir's early childhood he spent it mainly in peace, as he was taught the basics of education, and with his father's orders, he would watch the Swan Knights practice their skills whenever he had free time. In this time he pressed his tutors to help him learn how to read Sindarin so that he could read the archives of the Numenoreans. He was fascinated with the stories of his forefathers and how they vanquished the evil of Sauron. The art of the stories and the songs were what he truly liked, and as part of his learning he would practice singing the songs of old. Laindir also took up the art of drawing, using ink to capture a moment and preserve it. It was as a young child that he was determined to be one of those who wrote the stories, who captured moments of the past and preserved them for the future. Fate, however, had other plans for him. When he turned fifteen years of age, his father brought him to the Swan Knights to be trained. He would start as a squire maintaining his master's equipment and ensuring that everything was perfect for when he went into battle. On top of this all he would train with the knight so that his own skills would improve. Though he went on excursions with his master, he did not see any combat until he was eighteen and had been training for the past three years. At around this time he wanted to quit his service and pick up a more academic role. When he spoke to his father about this, the result was terrifying. Even though no swords were swung, it seemed very much like a battle. Laindir was nearly disowned by Edlennor for his words, as it was his sister that saved him. For their entire lives Laindir and Esteleth were always on good terms, understanding the strengths of the others. It was clear from an early age that Esteleth was far better in combat and strategy than Laindir. So when Laindir made his wants known to his father, his sister stepped in saying that she could take his place among the Swan Knights. Edlennor quickly told them both that he would be obeyed because he knew what was best. Laindir would continue in his path to becoming a Knight, and Esteleth would stay back and marry into another Dunedain family. Before their discussion could reach a conclusion, Edlennor was called from the home to ride out and drive back a group of Umbar pirates that had landed on the shores. It was in this very battle that Edlennor son of Gothrion would fall in battle. As news of their father's death reached them, Laindir decided he was going to fulfill his obligations to his family, and only then, when there was peace across the lands, would he let himself take on his dream of studying the world and capturing moments to be preserved. And then he took up the duties of a squire much more fervently. There was only one place he could be found, either sleeping with the horses, or in the training field. The knight that he served began teaching him even more, not just about the duties of a knight, but also the need for a knight to be well-rounded, simply being good in war was not all that should be needed. And so he began teaching Laindir of the same tales he had already read, but this time it was about why and how certain victories or losses came about. Knowing the past could help in the future, which is why the information was recorded. Through many more battles and lessons, Laindir finally accomplished the beginning of his father's wish. He was knighted in the summer of 2995, and fully joined the ranks of the Swan Knights. As soon as he joined however, he was called Kirinki, as an old songbird from Numenor that was only mentioned in texts. For Laindir had the heart of an artist, and forced into the body of a warrior. Now as a knight, it was only a matter of time before Laindir would be out leading his own expeditions against the Umbar pirates, or even be going east towards Minas Tirith where more and more orcs were becoming present. As the years passed, he continued his studies of history, but he also began the collection of modern stories. Not of the highborn nobles, but rather of everyone that was with him in battles. His experience in battle became known, and not just within the Swan Knights, but with members of the Umbar's raiding groups. Recently, in 3015 he was given the rank of Lieutenant within the Swan Knights, meaning he was now a leader of a group that would ride around the country maintaining the safety of the people. As the years have passed he has seen the changing attitudes in the enemies of Gondor. They have been getting stronger and more rash, pushing into territories they had previously not dared to go. Something was different in the world, it was as though the days were only going to get darker.
OTHER Laindir owns a war horse, specifically bred for battle and serving alongside a Swan Knight. The horse is pure white and is said to be one of the fastest within the kingdom. Suldal is a nineteen year old and has complete trust with his owner. He only carries his rider and the equipment needed for the specific battle. He has not found an enemy yet that he fears, though there are some beasts he has yet to meet. Suldal has his own armor that perfectly fits him, and will normally wear it only when entering large battles. Normally though, he will wear the blue cloth over his body marking him as a horse of a Swan Knight. As a Swan Knight, Laindir has a squire in his service. Faron son of Padhrion serves as the squire for Laindir. Faron is twenty years old and has been the squire for Laindir for the past four years. He rides upon the pack horse Peguiroch. Peguiroch is not meant to enter battle and carries most of the equipment that Laindir and Faron use.
